I’ve been down the hydroponics learning curve from rock bottom to absolute perfection.  Hopefully I can now share some of this knowledge with the world….

Hydroponics is essentially growing without soil.  The roots as a result, get more oxygen.  This makes plants grow bigger, stronger and faster, about x2 or x3 that of soil based equivalents.  That’s the upside.

Downsides are basically the higher maintenance of running the hydroponics systems, and you need electricity/enclosed area to run hydroponics.  It basically only works indoors.

Taste of the finished plant also differs, something to think about when growing green veges hydroponically.  There are ways round this with lots of flushing to remove toxins at the end of growing however….

The big debate always rages - soil vs hydroponics.  Hydroponics scores big on yield and is insect free as it’s soiless.  Soil on the other hand yields less than 1/2 for the same plant and has the possibility of insect eggs within the soil.

Me - I’m a hydroponics person.  It’s great growth when you get it right, and the taste is fine if you flush the chemicals out properly.  Soil on the other hand has the superior taste.

For indoor gardening, hydroponics is the only way to go in my opinion.

So that’s it in a nutshell.
